You guys are so lucky. Specially printed fabric is just too expensive postage-wise for it to be hugely worth it for me and then it takes forever too. There aren't the same kind of print places over here sadly. =(

Oh I know. In this world of instant gratification I want my fabric now! But I love getting custom printed fabric. I am thinking of playing around with some for pillows and bags soon. Ooh, fun. At Spoonflower, you get a discount if you're buying your own fabric. And I can attest to fast printing!

If it would help, I'd be happy to mail something to you... though I imagine postage is just crazy expensive rather than the companies jacking it up to you.

But then there's also customs duties to worry about (to the tune of 21%) that jacks the price up even more. Looks like I might get to go home in January, so if I do I might play around with some stuff then. We'll see.

If I send it marked as a "gift", is there still the duties? Back in the day, my family used to sell DVDs on Amazon and some would go to Canada and they always asked us to mark "gift" (which we were always iffy about since it wasn't a gift).

If I get something from family and its marked a gift then yeah, the duties don't apply. But normally companies will refuse to do that- and I believe that some states have passed laws to prevent it. Usually I get around it by sending everything to my mother first with the free shipping and then force her to send me a huge box'o'stuff so it gets through customs.

When I ship anywhere outside of Canada I always mark it as a gift, but I am a one woman operation. I actually had a gentleman contact me the other day who has a fabric printing service here in Canada that prints on Kona cotton and offered me a free sample. The price is less than Spoonflower so I am considering it.
The only problem? I am not an artist and suck at making designs which is why I buy others.
