Hey folks, so hot off the last quilt, the next baby is due in like two weeks and I figured since I was already on a roll with it that I'd try to get it done ahead of time. Most of the piecing is finished, but I'm having to go out and get more backing material before I can finish it and I thought I'd get your opinions. I need to quilt it, but I'm not sure what the best way to do so will be. Normally, I stitch in the ditch around the piecing, then do parallel lines radiating out of the design, but I'm not sure whether the parallel lines will work with this pattern. I don't own a free-motion foot for my machine (nor have I tried it with a normal foot before), but if you think its possible I can try it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

1) I love this one too 2) I would go with the parallel lines. I think it looked so cool in your other one and I think it would work and probably look pretty cool framing out the design. I used to draw fireworks in my younger days - you put 3 dots on the paper. Then you draw around them in different colors (a little like this, but I always did the same color in each ring 3.bp.blogspot.com/-E8pFMNv2Voo/T_j60UiAxUI/AAAAAAAAfew/hrlSKZMZIP4/s1600/DSCF0186.JPG ) and it was so exciting for young me when the colors met up, and that's what your quilting design makes me think of

Ha, I missed that on the first read. Yes, get a free motion foot. Your life will drastically improve!

Yes, I know I should get one. I have this really old workhorse of a machine and I've been a little worried that there won't be a foot for it so I haven't really looked. Plus, there isn't a convenient place to get it from for me. Tbh, I've been sort of hoping that I would be able to get a new machine and get all the shiny things for it, but that's probably still years away. So yeah... maybe I should go shopping. Lexxi - I love those color rings! If I didn't just know that I will get pissed at having to do so if I try to change color every line, I would totally consider doing that. I may go with parallel lines anyway. Hmm.. Thanks guys. Lots to think on.

It's just what what your pattern makes me think of

After much delay, finished it last night. It's only a week post-birth, so still pretty ok I think. Following the lines worked, mostly, but I'm itching to get a free-motion foot now for my next quilting. Thanks for the suggestions!

That looks great. I really love the borders on it. And the quilting is fantastic. And, yes, one week post birth still counts as on time

I had this one almost done then someone I didn't even know was pregnant posts baby pics online and its like OMG WHERE DOES IT END! I've determined that this means I'm old now. Nobody used to have babies more than once a year before. Now every week it feels like I'm hearing someone else is up the duff.

What makes me feel old is that I taught high school for 4 years (and I was 21 when I started, so I was a young teacher) and now students that I had are having babies. It was weird enough when they were getting married

Bad enough when my brother and his friends are doing things that make me feel old and they're only 2 years behind me!
