So I am going to set up the quilt a long with the block of the month on August 1. How would you guys like to see the format? All one thread or one thread for each component (ie, each pattern and subsequent pictures of blocks)?

I'd prefer each one being a separate thread. Maybe a subfolder for quilt/craft-a-longs, since I don't think this will be the only one. It'll be easier to organize. Plus if anyone joins late, they can easily see each block, ask their questions, etc. And also I can't participate Or at least not until mid-October at the earliest, and probably more realistically, December. I still want to, but with the wedding quilt and such, I know I can't manage anything else on my plate. Ugh!! But, when I get caught up with life, I'll probably play catch up with this

The sub-folder idea sounds really good. I don't really mind, but it would make finding it all easy.
Are you going to post fabric requirements or anything beforehand or is that month one? Just asking as if I need to go find fabric then that will be my cross to bear, but seeing as I just went and bought more yesterday I might need something to show my boyfriend and go, see? I was TOLD to go shopping!!

LOL. I plan on posting the overall idea of the quilt and the fabric requirements in August. You can definitely say I told you to go shopping if you want. I like the sub folders. Maybe make a "quilt-a-long" folder within the quilting folder and then have a folder for each block with the current one being stickied? It is DEFINITELY ok if you don't join until December. There will be some months I won't be making a block and playing catch up later. Don't forget to tell all your quilting friends!

Is this the Halloween pattern on the blog page? I love Halloween/Fall and Ive been wanting to try quilting but nervous of my skills with a sewing machine (basically none since probably middle school). What would the difficulty level be on something like this? I could probably procure a sewing machine from my moms (although its like 20years old). Also where would one get the materials necessary for the project?

20 year old machines are actually usually pretty good as long as they're still working. I am envious of the one my mom has had longer than I've been alive. The materials will be easy enough to find- its just 100% cotton for most quilting which you can get at almost any craft/quilting store like Joanns/Hobby Lobby or a dedicated small shop.
Personally, I think quilting is not that hard, but as something to start on, it might become a bit overwhelming. The beginning piecing of simple straight lines and things would be easy enough, but as soon as triangles get thrown in the mix I know some people freak out a bit, and there are a good few of those in this pattern.
If you want to try it, I'd go get the machine and do some practice sewing on something else so that you at least remember how to do seams, press them, etc, so that at least that part of the process doesn't scare you.

Well, I wanted to participate in this until my recent unfortunate accident with my rotary cutter. I think I'm going to have to bow out until I'm not afraid of the thing anymore.

Awwwww, I can teach you to not be afraid!
BigDaddyWiz, it is probably not a good quilt for a beginner one. Find the blog I made about starting in quilting and follow some of those links. If you are able to make a simple quilt and not have any problems then you can probably be ok for this one. It will only be a block a month so you can catch up at any time.

Yeah, Looking at it I do notice all the triangles and shapes that I assume need stitched together. My Moms said I can have her sewing machine, although apparently it needs oiled, which I didnt realize was necessary with sewing machines but I guess it makes sense. Maybe I'll start off with a pillow case or something simple and blocky when I acquire it.

A pillow cases is good (there's a pattern for Easy Schmeezy pillow case that is 3 pieces of fabric, super easy. If you can't find an easy pattern, let me know and I can scan you mine). Also, quilt blocks with squares are good to start. You can do a sampler quilt where you make 12 (or whatever) different blocks to build up skills.
